About

Rani Panda is a name that resonates with vibrance, controversy, and talent in the realm of Odia folk theater. Born and raised in odisha, she has carved a niche for herself as one of Odisha's most iconic jatra (folk opera) artists. Her journey from a small-town performer to a household name is marked by dramatic performances, public activism, personal struggles, and a fair share of controversies. Although much about Rani Panda’s childhood and family remains private, it’s evident that she was drawn to the performing arts from an early age. The expressive and dramatic world of jatra — a form of rural folk theater — offered her a stage to showcase her bold personality. Her early performances caught the attention of both critics and audiences, quickly pushing her into the limelight.

Rani’s breakthrough in the world of Odia entertainment came through her captivating jatra performances, especially in Rani Panda Ku Khandagiri Mana, which earned widespread acclaim. Her powerful acting, commanding dialogue delivery, and magnetic stage presence helped redefine female roles in jatra, traditionally dominated by male performers or more passive female portrayals. Not limiting herself to the stage, Rani ventured into Odia films with notable roles in Gaan ra naa galuapur and Hau Hau Hei Gala Re. She also made a mark in Odia music videos such as Tu Mo Kamjori and Premara Lakhyana, showcasing her multifaceted talent. Rani’s dynamic presence and diverse performances quickly cemented her as a beloved and influential figure in Odia entertainment circles.
