Shrimayee Debasmita – a name that resonates with both cultural depth and contemporary vision – is an accomplished Odissi dancer and a dedicated Urban Planner from Odisha. Deeply rooted in the spiritual and artistic heritage of her homeland, Shrimayee’s journey into Odissi began at a young age. It was her mother who first recognized her natural flair for dance and became the guiding force behind her initiation into the classical art form, nurturing her passion with utmost support and encouragement.
Her formal training commenced under Guru Dr. Gajendra Panda at Tridhara at the age of 3 and further flourished under Guru Dr. Pitambar Biswal at Suravi, Bhubaneswar. Under their revered guidance, she mastered the intricate vocabulary of nritta (pure dance), nritya (expressive dance), and abhinaya (emotive storytelling), upholding the timeless essence of the Odissi tradition.
Shrimayee’s performances—graceful, precise, and emotionally resonant—have earned her acclaim on renowned platforms such as the Konark Festival, Mukteswar Festival, International Odissi Dance Festival, and Malhar 2024. She is also an empanelled artist of Doordarshan Prasar Bharati and was awarded the Governor’s Trophy in the cultural category in 2012 from the former Hon'ble Governor of Odisha Sri Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare.
As the founder of The Odissi Kalakargram, Shrimayee devotes herself to mentoring young dancers through training sessions, workshops, and outreach programs. Her commitment to cultural preservation shines through her active role in public celebrations like Utkala Dibasa and World Tourism Day, where she uses digital platforms to bring Odisha’s rich heritage to wider audiences.
